Garageband, live instrument not reading through input
I have set up new behringer UMC22 audio interface with my Mac but GB doesn't seem to hear it at all.

Hi - According to the docs the UMC22 is class-compliant, so it shouldn't need a driver, it should be plug & play. It should show up in GB Preferences > Audio/MIDI > Devices under input & output. If it doesn't show up there, check the Mac utility Audio MIDI Setup [Applications > Utilities] to make sure the computer sees it. If it does show up but you don't see/hear incoming audio, make sure you have the appropriate input selected on an Audio track in the Smart Controls panel at the bottom [shortcut "B"] under Track > Recording Settings > Input, and enable the Monitoring button to hear the incoming audio before you start recording. I've attached a GB course at the top [click "More Info"] -- video # 4 discusses setting up hardware, maybe there'll be something helpful in there.. Re "it reads it as USB Audio Codec".. see the next post..

Re "it reads it as USB Audio Codec".. I came across something that suggested that that may be the Mac's way of identifying the interface if it can't read the correct product name of an older USB device..? If that turns out to be the case, then maybe selecting it under that name in GB Preferences will work..?

Hey thanks yep I worked through all of the above and its activates the volume read out in my system pref when I strum guitar so the signal is making it to the mac and all the input and outputs are set to the UAC but no life in GB itself

Hi - Is it just the incoming signal that doesn't show up? Does GB play audio out of the UMC [like from a Software Instrument or a loop]? Does system audio play out of the UMC? As a test maybe try recording in GB from the built-in mic instead -- if that works then the problem is probably with the UMC, but if recording from another source also doesn't work then the problem is more likely in GB [either setup/procedural or perhaps a reinstall needed?] I assume you've done the usual hard shutdown/restart [which sometimes solves odd problems]..
