    Sharing Ongoing Project
Hi...I song-write using GarageBand 10.3.4 on my MacBook Air. I live in Canada and would like to collaborate with a friend in the U.S. Is there a way that my works-in-progress can be sent to my friend where he can open it up in GarageBand to do his creative editing, and then send the modified file back to me? Thank you.

Hi - Sure, you can collaborate on a GB Project/song -- you'll find your song files in ~/Music/GarageBand (the ~ means your Home folder). But note.. - If the song includes audio recordings (as well as Instrument tracks), it'll be too big to attach to an email, you may have to use one of the standard (free) transfer sites for larger files, like DropBox or WeTransfer - If one of you has a (much) older version of GB he may have to upgrade - If one of you uses GB on a Mac and the other uses GB for iOS/iPad, you can only share the GB files if they were originally created on the iOS/iPad version

I have the same question. So Once I am ready to send my tracks on to others I have to use a transfer site? How does that actually work? Is Google Drive such a site?

Hi Givati - You could share with any of the free sharing sites, like DropBox, Google Drive, or WeTransfer—you just have to set up a free account. You might want to compare how much storage space the various sites provide with a free account (of course you can always get additional storage space with a paid account). I mostly use DropBox, but I'm sure any of them would be fine for GB projects, as long as the file sizes fit within the site's storage space limitation.

Hi Im having the same problem. My friend has recorded a project in GB for the iPad and shared it with me. Ive worked on it and want to send it back to him to work on but can't figure it out. Ive set up a google drive account but still can't figure what the steps are. If you could describe the steps that I need to go through to get the GB project on mac to the iPad of my friend that would be hugely helpful. Im totally stuck :-( Garth

I couldn't tell you how to set up Google Drive for file exchange (I sometimes use that, but I've never had to set it up)—I usually use DropBox, which is easy (enough) to set up (https://www.dropbox.com/basic to sign up for the free (2GB) version of DropBox). But I'm not sure that method of exchange will work between Mac & iOS versions (which I guess are technically two different applications)..? Apple seems to want you to do it via iCloud: https://support.apple.com/guide/garageband-ipad/share-songs-chs39284d66/ipados And here's Apple's explanation (from the GarageBand Mac Help document): ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ SHARE PROJECTS Share a project to GarageBand for iOS You can share a special GarageBand for iOS-compatible version of your GarageBand project to iCloud. The project appears in the My Songs browser of on your iOS device, as a new song with a single track containing a mix of the entire GarageBand project. You can add, edit, and arrange new tracks in GarageBand for iOS, then share the updated song back to iCloud. When you reopen the project in GarageBand, the new tracks are added to the original project. If the reopened song contains a Remix FX track, the Remix FX appears as automation on the Master track. In the GarageBand for iOS app, you can also share the project as a ringtone to your iOS device. For more information, refer to GarageBand Help on your iOS device. Note: Sharing a project to GarageBand for iOS requires an active Internet connection and iCloud login. Share a project to GarageBand for iOS 1. Choose Share > Project to GarageBand for iOS. 2. In the Export to GarageBand for iOS dialog Save As field, GarageBand defaults to naming your shared GarageBand project with the same name as your GarageBand project. If you wish to change the name, type the new name [ in the Save As field]. WARNING: If you change the folder from GarageBand for iOS—iCloud, your shared project won’t appear in the GarageBand for iOS My Songs browser. 3. Click Save. To return to GarageBand without sharing the song, click Cancel. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ I don't have an iOS device, so I can't test it out, but this video (I've linked the course above) also discusses it, to some degree—maybe there's something in there that'll help..
