Hi. I am almost brand new in gb. If I choose + then audio and microphone I get 3 options. From there I chosed last choice and clean guitar and amazing tweed and recorded that sound. I don't remember how, but assume I chosed that to track list and tabbed record button. So I got the recorded sound. So you see, no real external guitar is needed to get record audio sound. But now I do the same, only region appears, not the sound here. What is wrong? I replaced sierra to catalina and it needed to allow gb to use the microphone that my voice could be recorded (voice also didn't appeared).

Hi - If you recorded a guitar sound in GB without using a real [external] guitar then you were recording on an Instrument track, not an Audio track -- "Classic Clean" is an Instrument track preset, and "Awesome Tweed" is a preset for the Amp Designer plug-in. So you could hit "+", select Software Instrument, choose "Classic Clean" from the Guitar presets in the Library, open the Smart Control pane at the bottom ["B"], and under Track > Plug-ins, in the Amp Designer plug-in select "Awesome Tweed" from the plug-in's Preset list [it's in 01 Clean]. "Awesome Tweed" also shows up in the Library as a preset for an audio track, if you want to play a real [external)] guitar through it. In Catalina you have to allow GB to use the microphone [which really means any kind of audio input], but as long as you do you should be able to record audio from a real guitar or a [vocal] microphone as well. Hi. Thanks for the answer. I wrote an answer, tried to add video, failed as I couldn't find my videos to select from and my answer disappeared and that original post appeared again. How I can add my video to explain my words? I tap amp designer but there are no 01 clean and awesome tweed choices ( video shows). And how can I select them there and listen or recording?

Now amazing tweed appeared but not 01 clean. And I still have no idea how to listen or record it. Is it normal if I choose audio file for example that tweed, tap record button and sing then I listen my voice there?

Ok, several questions there.. 1] "Classic Clean" is an Instrument patch that's available only if you create a Software Instrument track [as shown], not an Audio track 2] "Awesome Tweed" on the other hand, is a patch for the Amp Designer plug-in, as shown. You could insert Amp Designer on any track, Instrument or Audio, but it's a guitar amp simulation so it wouldn't make much sense to use it on a vocal track, unless you want a distorted, band-limited vocal special effect. 3] Sorry, you can't attach images or videos in this forum [it's an anti-spam thing], only the moderator can attach an image.

Do all the choices, which I can find under acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass, are guitar or bass simulations? And all they give distorted sound? So, if I want to make a song (with software instruments) with vocal, I don't need to use all of them at all? The same questions about amp designer.

That's right, if you're planning to record a vocal part then only the Library patches under Voice are suitable for the vocal recording you're about to make -- the options under guitar & bass are specifically for guitar & bass recordings, and anything with Amp Designer will likely add EQ and distortion that's unsuitable for a voice recording. So stick to the Vocal presets in the Library and you should be fine -- maybe try "Natural Vocal" for a basic vocal sound [see the screenshot below].. I've also attached a link to a GarageBand course [above], which may be of some help with basic GB concepts & procedures -- the graphics in some of the videos may look a little different, but the functionality will be the same.

OK. How can I listen to all these audio sounds? For example, I chosed new project, there was project templates and then amp collection. I chosed it, got a list of options as amazing tweed etc, but I don't listen to them. Why I don't listen? I don't have external guitar. If I want to listen these sounds without external guitar or drum, must I choose input monitoring also? Do the flex time only is in use with real instrument? You sent me a picture, I chosed classic clean but after taping amp designer I don't get 01 clean and amazing tweed like on the picture.

Ok, again, several questions there.. 1] Some "sounds" in the Library are not instruments that you can play, they're just processors that you can apply to a live external signal [like a real guitar or your voice]. So if you want to play a guitar sound and you don't have an external guitar, you need to create a Software Instrument track, not an Audio track, and choose a *virtual* guitar Instrument, which you can then play [& record] from your MIDI controller [keyboard]. Then you can add processing plug-ins [like Amp Designer] to that track, and call up presets [like Awesome Tweed] for those processing plug-ins. 2] If you don't have a real guitar, then Input Monitoring is irrelevant, because there's no external Input to monitor -- again, if you don't have a real [external] instrument to plug in to GB, then you'd need to create a Software Instrument track, *not* an Audio track. 3] Yes, that's correct, Flex is only for real instrument [Audio] tracks. Software Instrument tracks automatically flex [follow the tempo] so there's no need to have a Flex feature for them. Flex makes your Audio tracks behave the same way your Software Instrument (MIDI) tracks already behave. 4] You mentioned those presets [Clean guitar, Amazing Tweed] specifically in your original posts, so they must be in there. Did you create a Software Instrument track and select it as shown in the screenshot [to access the Classic Clean instrument preset in the Library at the left], and open up an Amp Designer plug-in window from the Smart Controls pane [at the bottom] to access the Awesome Tweed preset [in the preset menu within the plug-in]?
